KENNY SCHARF
BIO
(b. 1958 in Los Angeles, California) Kenny Scharf earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the School of Visual Arts in 1980. He became well known in the early 1980’s in New York City, working alongside artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Drawing on colorful cartoons, street art, surrealism and social awareness, Scharf’s art introduces the viewer to a cohesive and exotic universe that places man, nature and cosmos on the same level. Scharf has stated that he wants to bring everyday pop culture into fine art, and break down elitist boundaries to create social inclusion in art. Scharf’s surreal artistic universe is expressed in the form of painting, sculpture, installation, mural, and even customized designs for cars. Scharf lives and works in Los Angeles, California and Brooklyn, New York.
